LIFE'S A BEACH IN MEXICO AND BEYOND!

WELCOME TO LIFE'S A BEACH IN MEXICO AND BEYOND!

Mexico is a vast and beautiful country with great geographical and climatic differences. However, in my opinion it's her beaches that are truly spectacular. Mexico has a total coastline of approximately 5,799 miles (9,330 kilometers) which sprawls along four major bodies of water.  Her coastline includes Baja California with its deep Pacific Ocean and the rich marine life of the Sea of Cortezmainland Mexico which also includes the deep waters of the Pacific Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico with its warm seas, and the Caribbean with its tranquil waters.  Mexico with its incredible coastline and variety of beaches offers something for each and every beach lover.

This photograph taken on the South Shore of the Bay of Banderas where Puerto Vallarta is located continues to be one of my personal favorites.

My husband and I have driven the coasts of Mexico over the last twenty years visiting many, many different beaches.  When we made the decision to move to Mexico full time in 1996 we chose PuertoVallarta to be our home. We had visited "PV" a number of times as visitors and had found it delightful, charming, and exciting.  Upon our arrival I immediately felt at home despite the inherent differences between Mexico and California.  It was new and "foreign" and I loved the challenge and excitement of starting a new life in Mexico.  PV's  location also gave us a wonderful base to explore more of this amazing country.  And though it has grown over the years, Puerto Vallarta remains beautiful, friendly, and a great place to indulge in the beach life.

We also enjoyed visits to the beach while living in Guatemala which included the black sand beach of Monterrico on the Pacific coast.

The following quote expresses my sentiments perfectly:
"With thousands of miles (9,330 kilometers) of coastline, Mexico offers everything one could want in the way of ocean-living, relaxing, exploring and water sports. From soft, gentle breezes over warm brilliant sand, lapped by gentle waves, to roaring and pounding surf, thrashing against black volcanic rock, and from misty and mystical jungles to high, shear cliffs, all provide opportunities for new experiences and finding different personalities of this magnificent country." Quote from Gerry Soroka, contributing writer to the following website:

A map of Mexico showing it's coastlines and prominent locations:

Each beach has its own beauty and personality. Some beaches are great for the simple pleasure of soaking up the sun and relaxing. Other beaches are fun and active with a lot of sport and social activities. We are personally attracted to beaches which offer the underwater world of snorkeling where we enjoy "visiting our fishy friends." Here are some of our favorite beaches on mainland Mexico.  I am looking forward to retrieving my Baja California photographs from storage in the near future to share.  In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the following photographs and the entire web album which follows.  Before we start, however, I would like to dedicate this blog and its album to our very special friend:

This blog, "Life's a Beach," is in loving memory of our wonderful and dear beach-loving friend, Susana. May you be swimming in the warm surf of the heavens!

This lifeguard tower on the Pacific coast of Mexico speaks to me of the beauty of its beaches and the beach life.  Does that make any sense?

The joy of the beach life shows in the smiles of these brother and sister twins and their amazing friend!

Playa Carrizalillo Beach, northwest of the town of Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, is known for its surf and lovely beach which is a steep walk down and a steep hike up, but worth it!

Spectacular and serene Playa Bococho, just north of Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, wants to know where is everybody!

Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca and its main beach and fishing fleet where the pelicans come to feast!

Wow!  A whale breaching off our beach in the Bay of Banderas, Mexico.

This pelican was happy to share his beach with us and we were happy for his company!

Snorkeling is one of the great joys of our "Beach Life," but this puffer would probably be happy without our company!

Sharing the beaches with the native wildlife, whether fish or fowl, is a joy!

What fun in the sun!

Another gorgeous sunset over the beaches on the Bahia de Banderas, Mexico

Beaches are also a fabulous venue for weddings and renewing of vows.  Congratulations!

Cocos (coconuts) and pinas (pineapples) are perfect at the beach!

Full moon over Los Arcos on the Bay of Banderas, Mexico equals magic!

Who says a four-footed friend can't also enjoy a day at the beach!

Up, up away and safe flying!

Is this photograph as iconic for you as for me? Taken on the Pacific coast of Oaxaca near Puerto Escondido

Colorful umbrellas, white sands, blue warm waters, happy people:  what's not to love about this scene?

Fabulous sand sculptures can also be seen by the boardwalk in "PV"

I remember hearing many years ago that a picture is worth a thousand words. Well, I am a believer of those inspiring words so I am including the link to my WEB ALBUM below which has additional photos for this posting. And if that is not enough, I have also included the following embedded SLIDE SHOW of the web album for your immediate enjoyment.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY BLOG BABY!

WELCOME TO MY BLOGS FIRST BIRTHDAY!

It comes as a real surprise to me that I published my first blog posting one year ago on June 10, 2014. When my husband suggested that I create a blog to share our nomadic life I had to pause to consider. The truth of the matter was that I had to educate myself as to exactly what was a blog.* There definitely was much to learn and consider, but it was a challenge and exciting. And since I had a considerable amount of time on my "retired" hands, why not?

This blog gig has grown on me and it has definitely become very much a labor of love. I enjoy the whole blog process from deciding the subject of my next posting, to working on the photographs to be shared in the posting, and to researching the information I want to share with my blog readers. I started this experience learning to crawl like an infant and now I feel like a soon-to-be toddler. In celebration of this first birthday, I am sharing the direct links to my thirty postings in order that you might enjoy re-visiting them with me. Thank you for joining me along this journey and I look forward to another year of MEXICO AND BEYOND: LAURA'S PHOTO JOURNEY!
